The  Sons  support veterans and their families and the policies of the American Legion (parent organization).  Virtually everything that involves the Sons could be grouped under three areas: 1) support for veterans and their families, 2) promoting patriotism and Americanism and 3) promoting programs which benefit the youth of our country.

Sons focus on much more than just membership. At all levels, Sons support The American Legion in promoting a wide variety of programs. Sons assist their posts in other activities such as Veterans programs, Veterans Administration home and hospital volunteerism, Children Youth projects and fundraising. Since 1988, The Sons have raised more than $5.8 million for The American Legion Child Welfare Foundation. Members have volunteered over 1 million hours to date in 2013 in Veterans Hospitals throughout the country and raised over $2,000,000 that has gone directly to VA hospitals and VA homes for a variety of items including TVs, radios, medical equipment and clothing for the patients.

Child Welfare Foundation Program

The Sons of The American Legion is the single largest contributor to the CWF. This past year, the S.A.L. contributed more than $220,000 to the CWF. In less than a decade, the S.A.L. has accounted for more than $1 million to the CWF.   Since 1988, S.A.L. has raised more than $5.8 million for The American Legion Child Welfare Foundation. S.A.L. members have volunteered over 500,000 hours at veterans hospitals and raised over $1,000,000 for VA hospitals and VA homes. The Sons also support the Citizens Flag Alliance, a coalition dedicated to protecting the U.S. flag from desecration through a constitutional amendment.

Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation (VAR)

Helping Veterans is a core purpose and service of the Sons of the American Legion.  Providing care and comfort to our heroic U.S. service members is our priority.  At VA facilities, Auxiliary-sponsored gift shops and holiday parties have become a revered tradition and valued program.  Whatever a veteran needs – job assistance, transportation, food, clothing, etc. – Auxiliary volunteers will do their best to provide it.

MySAL.org

MySAL.org is a free and secure web portal that allows Squadron Adjutants access to some important and extremely helpful day-to-day membership tools. It links local Squadrons directly with the computers at National Headquarters.  Every Squadron in the S.A.L. is eligible to register one individual to access MySAL.org on behalf of that Squadron. Once logged in, the features that can be accessed allow that individual to view and edit Squadron membership data (CSV file format allows users to work with data in other applications such as Microsoft Excel and Access), generate reports, conduct membership database searches and much more.
